News From the Sky!

Oh! I am changing my blog design once again. The last time I decided to change my blog's theme was last July 1. I do like my previous blog design but I encountered a problem with the template that I cannot fix. It does not have the "Show Older Post/ or Next/Previous Posts" link. Since I cannot find a solution to it, I just browsed for available Free Blogger Templates and I found one made by Gisele Jaquenod. Her designs are really cute! When I first saw this template " News From the Sky! ", I instantly fell in love with it. However, when I uploaded the theme, there was an error. This is what it said, "Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly. XML error message: The element type “HEAD” must be terminated by the matching end-tag “”."

Luckily, there was someone on the comment thread who suggested that we edit the xml by changing the fonts from capital letters to small letters. So I had painstakingly edited the xml. Just Press "CTRL + F" and search for those codes written in capital letters, then change them to small ones. Well, it did worked for me. Now, my blog has a new cute design. Well, you have to agree! lol

General Cleaning at Night

I felt so exhausted before I finally went to sleep last night. The reason for that is, I did a general cleaning! Am I the only person here who prefers cleaning at night? Well, the only area of the house that I cleaned was my room. Before that, it really looked like a mess. I am not the most organized person you would ever know. But I think I did a good job last night. I had to throw away some stuff that I no longer need. I do not know why, but I am the type who finds it hard to throw away things that I don't even need anymore (from receipts to old damaged shoes). I think it has something to do with the fact that I attach sentimental value to everything around me. But last night, I managed to take them all out of my room.

I felt so contented and relieved too that there are no longer eyesores in my room. I was so tired but I did had a good sleep knowing that I was able to accomplish something.

Dneero Pays!

I just got home and I feel tired because I had to do a lot of errands today. I checked Dneero to see if they have active surveys or what they call conversations that I could respond to. When I logged in to my account, I saw that my balance is 0.00! Oh where did it go? It turned out Dneero sent my earnings to my PayPal account today. That was pretty fast! My first payment from them is $20.15. It's not that much but all you need to do is answer short and simple surveys and post them on your site. Thanks Dneero!

Craving for Some Adventure?

If you mention Ewan McGregor, what comes to mind would be that sensitive lover in that movie with Nicole Kidman. He was so adorable in that movie. But Ewan could be more than that sweet lover boy, he can take you to a different kind of adventure as well. Brace yourself to be fascinated with this good (and good looking) actor when you go see the movie "Long Way Down". Admittedly, I am not the adventurous type. I cannot even ride a bike! Growing up with very pre-cautious parents sometimes have its downsides. So I guess, I would just content myself with watching the adventures that I had always wanted to do on tv or movies.

Ewan McGregor’s Long Way Down would be shown in select movie theaters on Thursday, July 31st, 2008 at 7:30pm! That's just a few days from now. Well, why should you mark that day on your calendar? This is because the chance to see this ultimate motorcycle adventure - on the big screen is good for "one night only". Also with McGregor on this motorcycle journey is Charley Boorman. They would be facing many challenges that would test their endurance, driving skills and push their friendship to the limit. Have fun watching the movie!

Page Rank Gone

During the recent Google Page Rank update, my blog's PR was reduced to 0 from PR of 3. For this blog, I am not that affected because I only use Social Spark (as a paid-for-blogging platform) to earn money. It's a good thing that Social Spark is not dependent on Page Rank but rather on Real Rank when it comes to giving opportunities to its members.

After the Google PR update, the normal blogging ways must go on... :)

When gas prices go up, you ...

Bespectacled

I am back to wearing glasses! No, not for fashion's sake. You may now refer to me as the bespectacled girl. I notice some people nowadays would wear those thick-framed glasses to sport that "nerdy look". I have to wear them because I suffer from Astigmatism and my eye vision is 150/100 to think I am just in my early twenties.

Actually, I started wearing glasses when I was 13 but the careless me would often misplace them. Hence, I have not been wearing glasses for months now but I noticed that it has been giving me headaches whenever I don't wear them.

I got a new pair. I have been telling my friends that I am again seeing the world in a new light! lol

Are You Financially Fit?

For_opportunities

I always tell myself that I am not getting any younger. Hence, I would remind myself now and again when I see something really nice at the mall, that I should refrain from buying things impulsively. I have to learn planning my finances carefully and in this instance, taking the future into consideration.

Admittedly, I do not know anything when it comes to Debt consolidation. It's not a good indication of my financial IQ that I am ignorant of these things. That's why recently, I tried to look up in the internet things that are related to financial planning and I also researched more in the area of Debt relief and Debt help. Sooner or later, I might get a loan to start a small business that's why it is a must that I equip myself with significant information when it comes to these things.

To test my knowledge, I took the Bills IQ test and I got 85%. I must say it's not bad, but it's not good either. I should strive to improve my knowledge regarding financial matters. I plan to be able to learn more about investing into my child's educational plan. Since he is still young, if I start now, I would have more time to save for it and secure his future.

Why I have to delete my Friendster account

I have been a member of Friendster since 2003 but I deleted my account just recently. To make the long story short, it became a cause of misunderstanding between me and a person close to my heart. So to avoid any arguments, I just cancelled my account. I had around 580 friends on that account. Some people there I met when I was still in the university, most are classmates from high school, some are acquaintances, and other random people I met. But I do not really regret the fact that I deleted my account. Besides, I do not really keep in touch with a lot of people. The friends that had always been there for me are just one text message away. So for those who would like to delete your Friendster account, it's not really a complicated process. Just make sure you are currently logged in to your account and then click on this link: http://www.friendster.com/login.php?cookie=1&next=%2Fcancelaccount.php

Long Way Down

One of the things that I wish I could learn (but never had the courage to learn is to ride a bike). I know majority of kids in the neighborhood where I grew up can balance themselves on those bikes but unfortunately, I was not one of them. So I just content myself to watching those biking adventures on tv.

I think I got lucky because that adorable guy from Moulin Rouge would be gracing the big screen this time with a highly entertaining motorcycle adventure. You guess it right, Ewan McGregor, together with Charley Boorman stars in LONG WAY DOWN. Fathom and Wasserman Media Group brings "Long Way Down" – the ultimate motorcycle adventure - on the big screen

I do not think you would want to miss the thrill of watching Ewan McGregor’s Long Way Down. Their set of adventures from Scotland to Capetown, South Africa on their BMW motorcycles would surely be worth-watching not only for guys, but ladies as well. The exclusive director's cut of the said movie will hit select movie theaters for one night only, on Thursday, July 31st, 2008
at 7:30pm!

Maybe after seeing this film, I can have a better motivation to learn riding a bike.

My Orange Umbrella

I had always expected that during months like these here in my country, it would rain almost everyday. It always pours in the afternoon. But I have never learned my lesson, I often keep forgetting to bring an umbrella. Well, I had only one umbrella, that old orange umbrella that looks far from reliable when it comes to protecting me from the rain when there is a strong wind. But it had been with me for years. I just keep repairing it on my own whenever it is damaged.

I know that I should get a new one soon. But I have this sense of attachment when it comes to my things. I find it hard to throw them away. Even test papers way back in college, they are still in one of the boxes in our store room.

It's time for my beloved orange umbrella to retire. I need to get a new one soon. But I guess, I would still put it at the shelf, in case I need it.

Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck is popularly known for his self-titled television show which airs on over 260 stations. I have not been an avid reader when it comes to the latest in politics but I do enjoy listening to those witty commentators who gives different meaning to the word "politics". Well, Glenn Beck is a concrete example of what I am referring to. Not only can you catch his say on his programs but you can read them on his site as well. Yes, the comedian blogs! As expected it's about his humorous political views.

If you want to hear more about his Glenn Beck is currently having a summer political tour and on July 17th 8 PM ET, Beck '08 Unelectable will be broadcasted nationally in select movie theaters.

Life's Treasures

Last night, my friend and I stayed at Starbucks near my place and we did not even noticed that we had been talking there for hours. During that rainy night, we decided to have a sip of our favorite mocha frappuccino while talking about "life". She would be turning 30 this year and still currently single with two adopted daughters (they are lovely twins). Since she was years older than me and had faced more of life's challenges, I was happy to hear pieces of advice from her. We chatted about men, career, family, and friendship. I have realized that I should focus more on the people who had always been there for me. Admittedly, because of that fact, I sometimes take them for granted. That night had been an eye-opener for me. I should learn to cherish more the gifts that God had given me and stop looking somewhere else.

WarGames 25th Anniversary Back in Theaters

I am born in the early 80's but I could vividly recall my favorite 80's movie. Well, it's no other than the adventures of the three off-beat scientists. I can hear myself singing "Ghostbusters!" I think this film is a true classic. For sure this is Bill Murray's, Dan Aykroyd's, Harold Ramis' best. But I can also associate the word "slimy" when I remember this movie.

Temp-image_1_1

Feeling Nostalgic after reading the first few lines of this post? Here's another one that will make you miss the old times. Fathom and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios are proud to present WarGames back on the big screen after 25 years. This is a one night only event. Well, some good things never lasts, so your surely so not want to miss this one. It will be played in select theaters nationwide on Thursday, July 24th.

Are you not convinced about attending this special event? Well it will be only here where you can get a sneak peek at the making of the sequel – WarGames: The Dead Code.

Breaking into Alexa's Top 100k

The Positive Side is my second blog. Admittedly, when it comes to effort in promoting my blogs, I have not given this one much priority as it should. As I bloghop, I notice that the Alexa Ranking of some sites had moved. So out of curiosity, I checked the ranking of this site. Lo and Behold, "The Positive Side" managed to break into the top 100,000. The nice part of it was I was not expecting it. I do not even track the statistics for this site anymore because I accidentally deleted the Google Analytics script (Yes, I know, I could put it back again, lol).

Aside from the traffic coming from Entrecard Droppers, I find it funny that most of those who find my site using google search had used the key word "Posh Smiles". Yes, I am referring to Victoria Beckham. Have you notice that she would always project a very serious facial expression on her pictures? Well, I have one on this blog (look somewhere in my archive) where I was able to post a smiling photo of Posh. That must be my lucky charm!

Paraben and Aluminum possible link with Cancer

As a woman, I know we want to smell fresh all the time regardless of what we do. Hence, using deodorants have been a daily regimen for most of us to avoid getting sweaty armpits when we face the long day ahead of us. Like you, I do not want to be caught having an unpleasant body odor.

However, I think most women are not aware that Parabens and aluminium in antiperspirants and deodorants have been linked with breast cancer. How does this happen? These chemicals can pass through the skin into the breast tissue by absorption and irritation caused by shaving underarms. When we shave our pluck the hair on our armpits, sometimes it can cause broken skin and irritation. We should be warned that we should not apply deodorants on broken skin. This warning can be found on your deodorant bottles. But are you taking it seriously?

I suggest that you Join the Breast Cancer Link Debate to voice out your opinion regarding this matter.

Hancock

There are heroes... there are superheroes... and then there's Hancock.

The tagline of the movie sounds interesting but when I went to see if I was right with my impression of it, then I could say I was a little bit disappointed. The storyline falls short of my expectations. The plot of the story should have been good but towards the end, I felt like it was rushed. It's like watching a movie and uttering, "That's it?" after the credits are shown.

But, I do not blame Will Smith for my disappointment. He was ruggedly attractive playing the role of the not-so-average superhero. Well, superheroes are not average, but Hancock is not the goody-goody type. A drunkard, and someone who makes a building-breaking entrance literally, he's not the kind of superhero that people would adore.

I was expecting something more from the movie. When it comes to effects, it's even below average compared to other Hollywood films (some would just bank on good effects plus a popular actor but the storyline is rather blah! you know what I mean!).

But I guess I would have to say "Good Job" to Will Smith!

Hanging Out at the Bookstore

My dream house includes a large room filled with the the best collection of books and other reading materials. I have always wanted a mini-library of my own.

I just love books but right now, it's not my habit to buy them. When I was in college, there's a big bookstore at the mall which is just a jeepney ride away from school. After classes, my buddies and I would spend the afternoon there reading books at National Bookstore. We are just lucky that some copies are open. Hence, we can take a glimpse of what's inside the book. Although there are some (to my disappointment) that does not have any unsealed copies, I am glad that majority of the books have copies made for public reading.

Until now, I still have that habit of just reading the book and not buying them. (Mr. Bookstore Manager, I am sorry about that.) Who knows someday, my dream library would materialize.

Viddiction Video Sharing

When I feel like I need a good laugh, I look online for funny videos. Those animals displaying their funny antics (without knowing that humans find it funny) really amuses me. I visited the Viddiction site and I was lucky to find a some cool videos. A video entitled "Cat with some serious skills" caught my attention. I clicked on the video to see what the serious skills was. The orange cat was watching a boxing match on tv and she was trying to mimic the moves of the boxers. The cat was also trying to throw punches in the air. Well, I guess it's not enough that you only read the description, just type "Cat with some serious skills" on the search box and see for yourself.

But the question is, what sets Viddiction apart from other video-sharing sites? They hold a regularly monthly competition with prices ranging from $50 to $500. You can enter the contest for free plus you can have unlimited entries. So the more effort you put on uploading cool videos and promoting them, the more chances you would have to get those prizes. That's the cool way to get cash for videos!

I think I will create a video of my own (well not me on the video!) and submit it here. I will tell you how much points would I be able to accumulate.

Popular Baby Names (Then and Now)

Looking at the list, only "William" survived the changing preference of baby names through time.

Most popular boy/girl baby names in 1950 (US):

1. James / Linda
2. Robert / Mary
3. John / Patricia
4. Michael / Barbara
5. David / Susan
6. William / Nancy
7. Richard / Deborah
8. Thomas / Sandra
9. Charles / Carol
10. Gary / Kathleen

Most popular baby names last year (2007, US):

1. Jacob / Emily
2. Michael / Isabella
3. Ethan / Emma
4. Joshua / Ava
5. Daniel / Madison
6. Christopher / Sophia
7. Anthony / Olivia
8. William / Abigail
9. Matthew / Hannah
10. Andrew / Elizabeth

I wonder why my name is not on the list? Maybe it will in the next 50 years.

Speaking of baby names, Nicole Kidman and Keith Martin named their baby Sunday Rose. The only day of the week that had been used as a name which I am familiar with is Wednesday (remember, Adams Family?). But anyway, a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet

The Law of Recognition

I received a text message from my cousin and after reading it, I stopped for a while to ponder about it.

The Law of Recognition:

Everything you need is already in your life, merely awaiting your recognition of it. Anything unrecognized remains uncelebrated by YOU. Anything you refuse to celebrate eventually exits your life - a gift, a miracle or a person.

To some extent, I believe that this is true. Sometimes, we just have to look closer to see recognize that we are indeed blessed. It often happens that we fail to acknowledge these blessings and take advantage of the opportunities because we are too busy chasing other things.

I have yet to read the book The Law of Recognition (The Laws of Life Series) by Mike Murdock. Based on his statement, I actually am interested to grab a copy of it.

Eyeglasses are Not Just For the Geeks

I started using glasses when I was in first year high school. I thought before that I look too geeky when I wear them. Well, I was a nerd in high school and donning a pair of glasses would make it seem that yes, I am indeed a nerd. I used to complain that the styles of the frame from where we order the glasses are too limited, and they do not match the shape of my face. Lucky are those who know that they could order $ 8 Zenni Optical Rx Eyeglasses. Aside from the fact that they are very affordable, there are lots of eyeglass models to choose from. They have stylish frames that comes in really cool colors. Looking geeky had never been this trendy. I seem so focused on the style but there's more to that. All of the Eyeglasses at Zenni Optical boasts itself of thin and light 1.57 index lens, anti scratch coating, and full UV protection. They also come with quality hard eyeglass case and microfiber lens cleaning cloth and of course full guarantee awaits when you when you with your every purchase.

Need to order more than one? Well, you can order as many as you like and you won't need to worry about the shipping costs. The shipping and handling charge is only a flat $4.95 per order, regardless of how many glasses in the order. Cool? :)

Electric Jeepneys on the Road

When I used to commute a lot by jeepneys, one of the most common mode of of transportation in the Philippines, passengers can't help but cover their noses with their hankies to avoid inhaling the polluted air that surrounds them. But I am glad to hear that the popular Philippine smoke-belching jeepney has now an electric-powered counterpart. This should help lessen the hard-to-fight air pollution in the city. The E-jeepneys were launched last year but the transport department had only approved their use on public roads last month. I think this would really have a positive impact on making the city cleaner and greener!

These colorful e-jeepneys made their debut in Manila last Tuesday.

Social Spark For Mommies!

If you have noticed, I have a number of sponsored posts on this blog. Have you seen those posts with colorful badges? Yes, they are paid-to-blogging opportunities I got from SocialSpark. I am a member of this social network for a few months now and I am earning from it! Isn't that cool? It's pretty simple, all you have to do is wait for your turn to be be given a chance for the opps you reserved and when a slot is given to you, you make a review of the advertiser's product or service on your blog. It's an easy way to earn money.

What makes Social Spark different from other advertising platforms is that, not only do you just wait for the opps to be assigned to you, you also get to interact with your fellow bloggers. I have met a lot of super friendly mommy bloggers on the site. Some of them have been very nice to even exchange links with me. If you are not one of us, then, I would like to encourage you to give it a try.

Isn't blogging a good means of earning money from home? While you are home taking care of the kids, then on your free time (while they are sleeping or just playing on their own), then why not try to earn money on the side by having a blog and monetizing it. My blog does not look familiar to you? Look closer! Yes, this is still the "The Positive Side". Well, I just thought of changing my blog design. (I feel the need to give my blog a new look). I always opt for a 3-column blogger design and I found a bunch of nice ones on Bloggertricks.com. While I was browsing on the different templates, I was really impressed by their selection. The designs look neat and the color-rich images are easy on the eyes. I am not yet done with my so-called blog design overhauling, I still have some widgets that I need to add, because they were deleted in the process of updating the design. But it must be done or else, I would be stuck with my old blog template.

Since it's the first day of the month, it's time for something new!
