Unleash the Superhero in You!

When I was younger, one of my past times is watching superhero series. I would often watch them with my siblings. Among them, X-men is my favorite. From those superheroes, I would like to think I am Storm. One of my brothers pretends he is Cyclops and the other is Wolverine. Yes, I wish I am gifted with those super-abilities. I wish I had that strength and kind of instinct.

Back to reality. I am a couch potato who would rather be relaxing, watching tv and surfing on the internet most of my free time. But I do sometimes fantasize that I could be like Jennifer Garner's character on Alias. Well, she was not born with those superpowers but I think she was trained well for it. Aside from her charming set of dimples, don't you just envy her very toned body in that series?

Zero-to-superhero-cover-big

A Chinese fund manager named Zhao Danyang had paid $2.1 million to have lunch with Warren Buffett, the world's richest man according to Forbes Magazine. Cisco Certification

A career related to IT is one of the in-demand career paths nowadays. Do you have plans of being a Senior Network Engineer or Senior Security Specialist? Then you must be familiar with the different certifications that could give an IT graduate a competitive edge among other graduates. To be able to advance your career, having a degree is not enough. It's an added asset on your part if you are more up-to-date with the latest technology and applications, and when you are armed with the more advanced certifications.

I have known a couple of friends who took up IT as a course in college. Hence, I have heard them discuss about Cisco certification. According to them, acquiring this certification would help a lot in their career and they could have more opportunities to seek a better job, not only in our country but also overseas.

What are the advantages of being CISCO certified?

A better paycheck would be the obvious advantage of being CISCO certified especially if you obtain a new CISCO certification. Aside from that, you would have a competitive edge when looking for a job. For those employers who are looking for workers with IT-related background, they tend to consider those who have additional technical skills in areas such as routing and switching, security, voice, and wireless technologies .

Don't you know that only over a million have been CISCO Certified so far? Hence, this is a big plus when it comes to career perspective. If you are into IT, then it's a good move if you belong in the small number of those who are proud to say that they are CISCO certified.

Entrecard Update: No More Quick Drops

Entrecard sent a notification that effective July 1, 2008, Entrecard will delete from its system the accounts of all members currently operating "Quick Drop Pages". These are pages where the only thing you can find is the widget. Naturally, the page would load much faster than a normal blog page.

When I come across this type of pages, it seems like, they do not really care if their blog is being read by the visitors as long as they gain credits.

According to the feedback from other members, I think most would agree that this is a good move from Entrecard. Personally, I am not after the credits that I could gain, I am more after my blog's exposure.

Football Fantasy

Client_dimesports250

Even if David Beckham is my "football fantasy" (whatever that means), there's more to this post aside from me talking about Victoria's hubby. I know guys like watching sports because it gives them that feel of adrenaline rush. I watch it for some other reason which may not be appropriate for this content. lol

Here's a suggestion for guys (and girls too!) to make football more exciting for you. DimeSports.net, with it's recently re-launched site, is about to start its fantasy football season on September 4. Well, you can say that is still months from now, but if you want to take advantage of the $39.95 sign up fee (this is good until june 30th), you better Join Now!

I bet those big boys at home would be very excited to hear that the total prizes amounts to $250, 000. If you win the Grand Prize of $100,000, give me a free football ticket! ;)

Joining Discussions on MyLot (and earning from it too)

For those who love joining discussions and have a free time to spare, then I think I can recommend MyLot for you. Aside from the idea of having to interact with different minds online about certain issues, you can earn from it too. Topics includes life, relationship, friendship, being a mother, movies, shopping, blogging, internet, making money online and many more. I have been a member of this group for quite a while now and I had a great time giving response and starting my own discussions. I had already made more than 400 posts on that site.

To earn more from this site, a member who had joined before me ,advised that, earnings would depend more on the quality of the posts (it should be thoroughly explained).

Finally, an Answer to My Laziness

When I decided to live on my own, my mom told me that she knew from the start that my number one problem would be keeping my room tidy. I am a self-confessed lazy person who would do things at the very last minute. My mom checks on me every once a week, and I assure you, she goes ballistic over the mountain of dirt in my room.

Well my favorite excuse is, "Mom, I am about to clean, but you got here too early." Of course she never believes that. She tells me I do not have to lie because she knows me from head-to-toe. Oh well, there's no use arguing with Mama. They know best.

Getting a maid to clean my room is not a solution either. I bet the maid would even give up on me but I know that the Dirt Devil AccuCharge Stick Vac and Hand Vac won't. At least I would just have to make sure it is charged before I use it and I won't hear it complain. For sure, this is a lot better than the filthy broom that's standing on the corner of my room. This system uses 70% less energy. Hence, AccuCharge is the first cordless cleaning technology to earn Energy Star approval.

When I get to purchase this product, I will no longer have to come up with an excuse to not clean my room.

The Aftermath of Typhoon Frank

It was not a good weekend for Filipinos who were affected by Typhoon Frank. When I woke up last Saturday, there was a power outage. Luckily, the power was running again a few hours later. But I could hear the strong gushing of the wind outside my window. I was not aware yet that the typhoon was in the Philippine's area of responsibility but I told myself, the wind was too strong, it must be a storm. I spent my time blogging all day but I was worried about my family in the province. I learned online that Metro Manila, including nearby provinces were on on signal no. 3.

I did sleep soundly amidst the angry weather. When I checked the headline again today, I found out that a lot of my kababayan were affected by typhoon Frank. There were millions of estimated total damages. According to the Philippine's National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) there were 98 dead, 115 missing, 66 hurt as a result of the storm. In addition to that, MV Princess of the Stars sank off Sibuyan Islands in Romblon over the weekend. The Philippine National Red Cross had earlier placed the death toll at 229.

These were very unfortunate events. I hope that those families that were affected will be able to surpass such unexpected circumstances.

Ces Drilon and Companions Released

Manila News-Well-renowned newscaster Ces Drilon, together with cameraman Jimmy Encarnacion and Mindanao State University professor Octavio Dinampo were finally released by their abductors last Tuesday night at around 11 pm. This was nine days after the kidnapping took place in Sulu province.

According to reports, the no ransom money was paid to the kidnappers. Instead they were convinced “to accept a livelihood package instead.”

We can not say for sure what transpired during the negotiations with the Abu Sayyaf group but we should be thankful that our fellow "kababayans" are now safe.

Shop Shield®

Most of us are now enjoying the convenience of online shopping and other online transactions such as paying our bills through the internet. But here's the catch, fraud is also becoming widespread online and internet users, like us, could be a victim to this one. I have received countless scam and phishing emails. This phishing emails looks really legitimate but I can give you a tip on this one. Once you click the link given to you, take a closer look again at the web address. It's not what you think it is! You are led to another site, which they use to capture your important details. But then again, sometimes we can overlook such things. If you are not internet savvy, you could be an easy prey.

When you give out your personal information, you can be at risk and your data might fall into the hands of identity thieves. Hence, its is good to find ways to protect our personal information. So far, the most promising that I came across with is Shop Shield®.

Shopshield

What is Shop Shield®? (You can actually learn more from their site). It is a new consumer service offering complete protection against identity theft and fraud. The good feature of the service is that you will no longer have to enter your information to databases of web sites. Your actual data is replaced with temporary, anonymous information, when you make a purchase online or register at a web site. Isn't that really safe?

Shop Shield® protects consumers:
* Credit Card Numbers

No, this is not a rant about any one I got involved with in the past.

"A 43-year old Italian man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend from a pub in the port city of Genoa, taking her home and forcing her to iron his clothes and wash the dishes, police said Monday".

5 Healthiest Anti-Aging Snacks

I am guilty of always having junk foods for snacks. But I am trying to be more watchful of what I eat. I came across one of the featured articles on Yahoo about the Five Healthiest Anti-Aging Snacks (written by Dr. Maoshing Ni). Instead of buying all those anti-aging creams in the market, why not indulge on these healthful snacks.

On the list are, apples, berries, avocados, nuts and seeds, and apricots.

Nuts and seeds contains arginine, an amino acid that helps fight heart disease, impotence, infertility, and high blood pressure It also facilitates the healing process.

Due to apple's rich pection content, eating two to three apples per day leads to decreased cholesterol levels.Pectin also helps prevent colon cancer.

Berries such as Blueberries and Cherries, contain bioflavonoids, antioxidant compounds that reduce free radical damage.

Avocado is packed with glutathione which is known as the "master antioxidant." Glutathione regulates immune cells, protects against cancer, and assists in detoxifying.

Apricots have the highest levels and widest variety of carotenoids of any food. Carotenoids are antioxidants that help prevent heart disease, reduce "bad cholesterol" levels, and protect against cancer.

Massage

There are over 80 types of massage therapy. In all of them, therapists press, rub, and otherwise manipulate the muscles and other soft tissues of the body, often varying pressure and movement. They most often use their hands and fingers, but may use their forearms, elbows, or feet. Typically, the intent is to relax the soft tissues, increase delivery of blood and oxygen to the massaged areas, warm them, and decrease pain.

My Blogs' Technorati Update

During my first few months into blogging, I would often check my Technorati Authority. But Lately, I am running out of patience because the site loads really slow and there seem to be a bug every time I visit. I have to keep on logging in whenever I have to view another page. It would also sometimes tell me that I do not have a "claimed" blog. I do not know if it the problem is with my internet connection or just the site itself. It could also be that a lot of people are interested to know the latest buzz on the site and they are eager to check their Technorati Authority.

Here's the stats (authority) for my blogs:

RD Makes Me Laugh

I have mentioned in my other blog that my family had a monthly subscription to Reader's Digest Asia. I really enjoy reading the magazine from cover-to-cover because every page is really worth reading. Aside from the true-to-life stories that are being featured they have sections that will really brighten up your day.

Want to keep those laughter coming? The you should visit RD Laughs Main to have a regular dose of the funny moments shared by other readers. As I was reading the published jokes, I was really laughing to myself. I think I had been very seriously recently that I forgot the gift of laughter. Yes, it's also true that laughter is the best medicine.

So what can you see on these pages that should be worth your time? Stand-up Videos and Funny Cartoons are all over the page.

Here's a good find:

Recently my girlfriend, Karen, got a job at a local hardware store. "The owners don't want us hanging out with our friends," she said. "If you stop by, tell them you're my brother."

On my first visit, I walked to the customer service desk and asked the older woman there, "Is Karen around?" When she looked at me quizzically, I added, "I'm her brother."

She smiled. "What a nice surprise. I'm Karen's mother."

How about you think of something that could make others laugh as well? Here are two things you can do:

*You can submit a joke for a chance to win $100.

*You can submit your very own funny photo to one of RD's contests and have your family and friend's rate it.

Laugh! This would protect your heart!

Goodbye Havaianas?

Since flip-flops became the "in" thing, it had been my favorite foot wear. Basically, I love wearing it because it's light and it feels comfortable. However, according to Dr. Rock Positano, a podiatrist at New York's Hospital for Special Surgery, "Flip-flops have singlehandedly caused more problems with people's feet in the last couple years than probably any other type of shoe".

It is reported that there are five to 10 flip-flop related injuries a week -- injuries that Positano believes are a direct result of women wearing flip-flops in place of normal walking shoes.

"The problem with this is absolutely no support … the foot is able to go in any direction it wants to go in, and it directly impairs the ability of the foot to function as a shock absorbing part of the body," Positano explained.

However, using flip-flops in moderation is fine. The problems arise when you wear them for long periods and long distances at a time.

Restart. That's what I do when I am losing patience whenever the computer is acting up. I feel like that's how I should deal with the situations surrounding me. Click restart. But I do not think it will be as easy as that.

I wish those things that I worry about would just go away...right away.
